Reclaim Your Serenity: Treat Yourself at Sabai Thai Spa in New Westminster, B.C.

We all need and deserve some respite from the undue stress we’ve had to deal with over the past eight months. Respite looks different for different people. For me, a day at the spa was exactly what I needed. Earlier in August, I visited Sabai Thai Spa’s new location in New Westminster, B.C. where I was treated to an incredibly rejuvenating wellness experience. It was an opportunity for me to reclaim my serenity. I believe everyone deserves a bit of that as we head into the fall season.

On any given day, we interact with elements from diverse cultures - from the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the clothes we wear, and people we have conversations with. The fact is we are inspired daily by different cultures. The wholesome experience that Sabai Thai Spa gives its guests is nothing short of this. The spa fuses Asian treatments with European techniques and the result is a refreshing and soothing experience that is inspired by Eastern and Western cultures.

I had the opportunity to try the spa’s 90 minutes pure serenity package. The package includes an oil full-body anti-stress massage followed by organic facials, bright eyes treatments, and Thai foot massage. Days before my spa appointment, I had been feeling sore in my back. The anti-stress massage helped to ease my back pains and loosen the tension that had built up in my body over the past few months. The facials and eye treatments were fully customized based on my skin type and the Thai foot massage helped improve my blood circulation.

That said, I particularly enjoyed my spa day because of the general ambiance at Sabai Thai Spa. The staff and masseuse were courteous, welcoming, and considerate of my inquiries before and during my time there. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, several measures were put in place to ensure that guests feel safe and comfortable in the spa. Before my appointment was confirmed, I filled a screening form. At the spa, all staff members wore masks and practiced social distancing. There were limits to the number of people who could be in the building at any given time. Guests were allowed into the building only when it was time for their massage and temperature readings were done before entering the building. The masseuse washed their hands before the massage began. Since massages and treatments are contact-based activities, it was reassuring to see how careful and considerate the staff were.

Before my spa day ended, I spent some time marveling at the cultural art, elements, and greenery that backdropped the waiting room area. They had different skincare products on display for purchase. A five-minute walk from the nearest train station, the spa’s New Westminster location is very accessible by transit and if you drive, there are ample car parking spaces. More so, it is close to the seawall and surrounded by a handful of restaurants. This made it easy for me to hang around while I waited for my appointment—these seemingly little things made for a wholesome experience.
